The brief for Landsec’s 1,300 sq ft pop-up “Lab” was to create somewhere different for staff and clients to use as a workshop area.
The brief for Landsec’s 1,300 sq ft pop-up “Lab” was to create somewhere different for staff and clients to use as a workshop area.
They wanted to break the mould of their usual, corporate environment and create a space that inspired creativity, new ways of working, collaborating and thinking.
Located within Sustainable Ventures Bankside, the Lab is an innovative and multi-functional space that can either be connected to or separate from the surrounding warehouse environment.
It has a flexible floorplate with different zones defined through the use of lighting, furniture and retractable curtains as well as tones, moods and colours across walls and floors. The furniture is custom-designed and includes a CNC workshop table which can be stacked to change function, moved around or locked into place.
A services ‘truss’ was created through scaffolding to house lighting runs, curtain tracks and industrial style power points.
The simplicity of the modular, moveable and deliberately unpolished space triggers an open-mindedness to ideas which is perfect when exploring and testing new ideas in design and behaviour.
"The use of grids, colour and angles represents the dynamic, moveable and creative intention for the space, equally reflecting Landsec’s strong brand guidelines"
Amy Martin
“The lab is a fantastic environment to bring the team together for a day of workshopping. The space enables the right frame of mind and debate to unfold. We could not have achieved that type of thinking in a traditional space.”
David Heaford, Landsec
